Hear From My Clients

While my 92-year-old father was in the ER/Rehab Center, his mobility declined. His senior living facility came to make an evaluation and determined he would not be allowed to return to the facility due to his weakened state. This came as a shock to me – where was my dad going to go once he got released from the ER in a few days? I immediately thought, as exhausting as it was, I would go back to taking care of him myself. Luckily the hospital’s Social Services staff recommended Caroline Mckinley to me. I gave Caroline a call and right away she sounded like a nice person who understood the totality of the situation. By totality I mean: the care my father needed; the logistics of time and finances; and the state of mind and conflict of emotions within the family. After taking all that into consideration, Caroline had a definitive answer – she recommended I place him in a small Board and Care home and gave me a couple of places I could go visit right away.  I don’t know why I was reluctant at first – maybe just fear of the unknown. I pushed to get my dad re-admitted into his large senior living facility. I wish I hadn’t done that – it meant a few more weeks of inadequate care for my dad. Caroline stuck with me – called me back a few times to see how he was doing. She kept reminding me to consider the Board and Care home option. Finally, I went to visit a Board and Care home and was surprised by how relaxing it was. Caroline was right all along – the small Board and Care  home environment was the best place for my dad. I finally decided to transfer him there and we were all relieved. So, my advice to all dutiful sons and daughters of aging parents – trust in Caroline – she’s the expert.

I first spoke with Caroline about a year ago but my husband wasn’t ready to place his brother.  He ended up in the hospital and the frantic search began. Caroline was very responsive, genuinely concerned that we find the right place and that it was close to us. (Not a simple task when you need a secure memory care facility!) Her contacts were able to get the ALW waiver and we couldn’t be more relieved!
